I recently read A Customary Dilemma by Michael Allwood. Although the plot was interesting I have to say it was one of the worst books I have ever read, and I am an avid, long time reader of all genres. The writing is so bad, structurally and grammatically, it seems like this book hasn't even been edited at all. There are also many missed opportunities to expand on the concepts in the story, as well as bring emotion into it and draw the reader in. Some of the speech is so unrealistic. I mean who says to their wife "Tomorrow night darling we should again have a celebration dinner but on this occasion, you can buy another dress and also ensure you book yourself into your hairdresser!!" and all in one sentence???? Major editing needed for the next two books in the trilogy please!!!

I recently read A Customary Dilemma, and was then fortunate to have an opportunity to review the two successor works in the Mike Costello, British Customs undercover agent, series of thrillers. The author has created a truly fascinating world in which the central character progresses his career in a truly remarkable way. I cannot wait to see books 2 &3 published, and to read the next in the series. Well done, Mike - you have created an authentic British anti-hero for the most discerning thriller reader.
