Keith L. Wright to hold a talk about his new title at Chesham Library

On the 1st of June, Keith L. Wright will be holding an author’s talk at Chesham Library at 11:00am following the release of his new book ‘The Blacksmiths Arm’.     Two young men growing up with all the problems that young men face. Awkwardness with girls, yet longing for some form of intimate, even sexual contact. Trying to find their place in their family, and with their peers. Nothing remarkable about that except these two young men, both called John, lived centuries apart. One a blacksmith's son around the time of The English Civil War and the other a publican's son shortly after the start of the millennium. Both lived in turbulent times, and their feelings were stirred by stories regaled by visitors to the forge or the pub. Finally, both leave the family home, angry for reasons they couldn't really explain, looking for something but not knowing what that was. They are both caught up in the violence, one as a soldier fighting for Cromwell, the other as a policeman in the riots of 2011. Violence overwhelms them and their lives become a spiral of despair and their only hope seems to be through the love of a woman. But that is not a certainty. History seems to be repeating itself and old certainties disappear. Smile at the mistakes, sadly reflect on the horrors and laugh at the tales. Most of all enjoy the journey.

Carol Steingreaber Book Reading

Carol Steingreaber will be performing a reading of her new autobiography 'Pants Optional' on Friday, May 13 at 7pm in CSPS Hall, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In her first autobiography, Pants Optional, Carol Steingreaber offers a hilarious, unrestricted insight into her life thus far in Iowa, USA. The reader is a privileged passenger on the journey, invited to buckle up for the ride as Carol shares her stories from the sibling squabbles of childhood, to cringeworthy dating moments, marriage and various stages of motherhood. Her witty, "tell-it-straight" writing style conjures up images you can't help but laugh at, often accompanied by photos that speak a thousand (usually comical) words. Carol provides the reader with "UNconventional tips" on a whole range of themes such as housework and hospitals, illness and injury, Nerf guns and nudity, safety concerns and sex, friendship, faith and a great many more. Moments of eternal embarrassment are interspersed with flashes of comic/parenting genius, and every reader will find a nugget or three (or twenty!) to inspire them. A cracking read, and highly recommended. This event is sponsored by Next Page Books. A book signing will follow the reading in Next Page Books. This event is free and open to the public.
