Carol L. Steingreaber at the Clear Lake Public Library

Join Carol L. Steingreaber at the Clear Lake Public Library on the 19th September 2017 for a book signing and reading. Carol Steingreaber offers a hilarious, unrestricted insight into her life thus far in Iowa, USA. The reader is a privileged passenger on the journey, invited to buckle up for the ride as Carol shares her stories from the sibling squabbles of childhood, to cringeworthy dating moments, marriage and various stages of motherhood. Her witty, "tell-it-straight" writing style conjures up images you can't help but laugh at, often accompanied by photos that speak a thousand (usually comical) words. Carol provides the reader with "UNconventional tips" on a whole range of themes such as housework and hospitals, illness and injury, Nerf guns and nudity, safety concerns and sex, friendship, faith and a great many more. Moments of eternal embarrassment are interspersed with flashes of comic/parenting genius, and every reader will find a nugget or three (or twenty!) to inspire them.

There will be drinks, nibbles and even music from Cotinga Swing. It's certain to be a wonderful event. Girls, as Liam would say, are equally annoying but also devious and at times, too smart for their own good! When Liam makes himself invisible Piper sets out to discover the truth, is he really a scientist? Or a scammer? Sisters always seem to have a way of finding out. Liam then discovers a secret cellar full of rats and zombies, and wants to turn it into his very own laboratory, but Piper has other ideas. In a dark and spooky corner Liam finds a briefcase full of amazing secret formulas that once belonged to Professor Nutbolt, a mad old scientist who mysteriously vanished years ago. Now that the world of science is at his feet, will Liam discover the truth behind the Professor's disappearance or will he become a victim too? Liam and Piper are about to find out...

Donna L. Jones at The Institute, Pontarddulais

Join Donna L. Jones on Tuesday at The Institute to find out how she came to write 'The Rise of Global'. "ONE Language, ONE Version, ONE Vision;"  "ONE Global Law - accept it or be Labelled!" Global - "super or killer language"? Apollos Popov has no doubt. He fears that Global will spread throughout the planet, like a disease eventually killing all Mother Tongues. He believes the spread of Global will usher in a new age of language superiority; a return to just one spoken tongue as in the days before Babel. He is convinced that the consequences for all native languages would be catastrophic. One man is responsible. 'The Rise of Global' tells the story of that one man's obsession to eradicate his true identity and replace it with a new one; one that will afford him power and status, one that will give him a new name - a name that all citizens will recognise as THE LAW... Ken Melber at the Boston Spa Festival!

Join Ken Melber, author of 'A Brush With Chaos', at the Boston Spa Literary Festival on the Saturday 15th July. Ken and two other authors will be at the Methodist Hall speaking about their novels and how they were created. There will also be a Q&A session. Make sure you come along for your chance to find out all about 'A Brush With Chaos'. Karl and Anna consider themselves to be veterans of Africa, having spent three years teaching in Uganda during the brutal despotic rule of Idi Amin Dada. In this semi-autobiographical novel set in the 1970s, they take a teaching post in Nigeria, with the promise of adventure, a high wage, affordable help and the allure of the African pace of life. Were they brave or foolhardy? Perhaps a bit of both. Before leaving, Karl receives a letter from an old friend with the warning to ‘Remember, Nigeria is not Uganda,' which he elects to withhold from Anna who is pregnant with their first child. Living in a remote area of central Nigeria, in a house without electricity and running water, they both need and find the resilience to help them cope with their struggles with culture shock, maladministration, chaos, apathy, violence and bribery, interspersed with moments of humour, happiness and joy.
