J. M. Ryder was born in London in 1959, and wrote her first novel at the age of 60. She has worked in both veterinary and dental nursing, but is now a cleaner and gardener. She lives with her husband in Dorset and enjoys walking, playing guitar, arty things, and the occasional pub quiz.
