Ann Patricia Turner-Savage

Ann Patricia Turner-Savage grew up in the West Country; however, her ancestry is North East European. Being denied an education after the age of fifteen, she rebelled strongly and set about obtaining one. Her first opportunity came when she travelled across Europe in 1976 and took the ferry out of The Pireus at Athens to the Port of Heraklion on Crete. She took a bus to Matala and lived in a mountain hut without electricity or running water. Laundry and honey cakes, etc., were delivered by donkey. Feral goats would wander into her bedroom and try to eat her washing from the line in the garden. Patricia learned to converse, read, and write Greek and loved every minute.

Later in Paris, she studied the Impressionists and worked hard to reach Fine Art standard in painting oil on canvas. Patricia is also fairly confident painting using watercolors. These skills opened a whole new world to her. She still retains a few French phrases from her time in France. Gaining an Access Course Certificate, she attended Birkbeck and studied Ancient Lives Textual Evidence. This led her to Egypt, and her passion for this astounding country and its amazing history has totally fulfilled her life.

Arabic-speaking and diplomatic by inclination with a mischievous sense of fun, Patricia had no trouble fitting in with the Arabic-speaking communities along the Nile and flourished. The Invention of Forever found its way into print due to a very unusual experience in the tomb of the teenage Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty Tut Ankh Amun. Patricia is still haunted by this amazing and insightful experience.

Patricia claims that true insight of the Sahara can be gained by constant study of The Lost Oases written by the intrepid explorer A. M. Hassanain Bey. Her love for the desert and the Bedouin people is well known. Patricia returned to Egypt last Autumn to ‘fine-tune her research for a sequel to The Invention of Forever. She has just celebrated her 80th birthday.
