An Afternoon with…Andy Flute author of Jesus in My Corner
Former captain of the English boxing team and British Middleweight title challenger Andrew Flute published his autobiography ‘Jesus in my Corner’ with Austin Macauley Publishers in January 2019. His book details his struggles with violence and alcohol which took him on a journey to hell, after finding Jesus he almost immediately gave up his demons and entered a new positive journey to life. His book is one of our best autobiographies.
Andy Flute’s willingness to share the most intimate aspects of his life was born out of a deep desire to help others addicted to alcohol and violence. He regularly attends prison workshops, sharing his testimonies to help inspire others to turn their lives around.
We recently caught up with Andy to learn a little more about his life before and after writing this inspirational and meaningful book.
1. How old were you when you started boxing and was there anything/anyone that inspired you to become a boxer?
I was taken to the gym at 3 years old, I was inspired to pursue a career in boxing because my dad and uncle were boxers.
2. Your book details your journey from what you describe as ‘living hell’ to Christianity, can you pinpoint a turning point in your life?
The turning point in my life was when I cried out for help from Jesus after reaching my rock bottom & my baptism was also another pinpoint as I became a new creation.
3. What inspired you to put your life experiences into a book?
I was inspired to write my book as I was trying to help myself & others, writing it was like therapy for me.
4. Did you learn anything when writing your book?
While writing my book I learned lots of things… to be humble and honest and that no matter what you are going through in life, if you’re genuine, Jesus can be the answer to everything.
5. For those who have not read your book yet, what do you think the readers could learn from your story?
There are so many things to learn from reading my book, not just one thing. The biggest lesson you can pull from my book is that no matter how bad things are you can turn anything around if have you want to do so bad enough.
6. 18 months on from publishing your book, have you seen that your story has helped others, if so how?
My book has helped so many people in 18 months, I’ve had hundreds of messages, the feedback I have had is that the best thing about my book is that it’s honest and written from my heart, I have not glossed over the topics in any way.
7. What advice would you give anyone who is following a similar road?
I would advise anyone on a similar path just be honest with yourself and others and to do your best.
8. What is your favourite part of the book?
My favourite part of my book is when I write about all the world champions I shared a boxing ring with such as Chris Eubank, the feeling of being invincible still comes back to me occasionally & my baptism what was the best thing I ever did.
9. If you could summarise your book into 3 words what would they be?
Inspirational, passionate and honest.
10. What advice would you give someone who is thinking of writing their book?
My advice for anyone writing a book is to get a good publisher as I did, so you can get the expert guidance in areas you may not have the knowledge to do yourself.
