Books and Activities to Indulge in This Random Acts of Kindness Day

"How do we change the world? One random act of kindness at a time."

— Morgan Freeman

Did you know that Random Acts of Kindness Day will be celebrated on 17 February this year? Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful days that we get to cherish out of all 365 days of the year, right? After all, what could be more perfect than to soak in all the kindness, love, and positivity sent your way and spread the same joy to others around you! Random Acts of Kindness Day gives us all an opportunity to reflect on the significance of being kind — not just towards others but to ourselves too. It also allows us to share the message that even a dash of kindness can make a difference.

In light of what occurred throughout 2020 that is continued to date, it is right to seize every opportunity to make someone smile. Simple acts of kindness can be a great way to impact not just ourselves positively but also others. Being kind to everyone is a must, and observing the positive effect of our acts on others can make our day more enjoyable and possibly encourage others to do the same and help someone else. We must not forget that the ripple of kindness is created by a single act.

This day is a chance to step beyond your comfort zone and go big with your kindness. We've got suggestions for you to #MakeKindnessTheNorm and #ExploreTheGood with the Random Act of Kindness Foundation! Start off your month by creating a kindness jar! Don't forget to make a list of all the positive events in your life and be thankful for them. Everything will be fine. Actually, it will be incredible if we do the work, discover the good and strive to make kindness the standard.

Take Some Time Out for YOU and Be Kind to Yourself

Don't forget to give yourself a breather; just stop for a second and give yourself the time and attention you deserve. The past couple of years have been challenging, and many of us struggle with our mental well-being. You MUST check-in with yourself from time to time. Make sure you take care and pamper yourself as you would do for other people.

Self-love means not being too harsh on yourself. Also, it means not committing yourself to unrealistic standards by not comparing with others and beating yourself up when you make a mistake or not being skilled enough in something.

Be Mindful of What You Say and Surround Yourself With Kindness

Be mindful that being kind isn't only something that we practice offline but also applies to our online behavior. Unfortunately, the keyboard warriors are out with a vengeance and believe they can say whatever they want. Of course, everyone is allowed to have an opinion, but just keep them as an opinion. It doesn't need to be mean or snide as the saying goes, "It isn't what you say, it's how you say it."

Be kind. Kindness truly is important. Many people are in a difficult situation and might not always speak about it. It's not going to make things better; however, it can help reassure us that we're not alone, and sometimes that's all we need.

Give a Gift

Books make the perfect gift, and there is no denying that. Perhaps you've just finished reading the book about positive psychology, and you want to share your positive experience. Maybe your friend likes cooking, and you've discovered the perfect recipe. There are endless options! Choose a book that can truly inspire someone within your circle.

Keep Kindness Live and Kicking Throughout the Month

One excellent way to inculcate the habit of kindness is to design the Kindness Calendar. Write down an easy task your kids can complete do to assist someone. Then, each night, they can tick off that day's square to mark they have completed the task. The aim is to determine whether they are able to keep the kindness chain throughout the month!

Here are some enjoyable and easy acts of kindness that you can include in this calendar.

  • Give a nice compliment to someone.
  • Invite a friend to play with you or to have a chat.
  • Give a high-five or thumbs up following an excellent job.
  • Make sure to hold the door for others.
  • Write down the things that you are proud of about yourself.
  • Set a great example to your fellow students.
  • Write a note of appreciation or send a kind message to someone.
  • Perform a task that's already on your list of chores.
  • Help someone in need.
  • Participate in community chores.
  • Pick up the litter and help clean your area with a group of friends.

Donate Something

Everyone loves gifts, so why not leave something thoughtful for those who don't have the luxury to afford nice things or don't have anyone to care for them? It doesn't have to be expensive; you can simply choose a chocolate bar, a postcard, or even a meal you can take and leave with a note. If you have an old pair of clothes in good condition but don't use them anymore, you could give them away to the homeless or goodwill centres instead of hoarding them. We're sure it will delight them!

If you’re blessed and have the money, you could consider donating to help those who don't have as much luck as you, e.g., UNICEF's website. UNICEF website.

Offer Help to Those Who May Need It

It could be as simple as babysitting or offering to help with groceries! This might seem small to you, but it could make a difference to someone in need.

Ask Your Friends How They Are Doing

Make time to check in with your pals and see what they're up to. In these times, it's more crucial than ever to communicate with each other and take care of our mental health.

Let's show some extra compassion, not just this day, but all the time moving ahead.

Engaging in Random Acts of Kindness Day doesn't need much time and effort to plan and prepare. You might notice that you know a coworker who has done a great job. You can simply express your appreciation by leaving a box filled with biscuits or even a hand-written note.

If you'd like to know more ideas on showing kindness, many examples are available on the Random Act of Kindness website. You might also want to share your story of kindness on Kindness.org on their initiatives page.
