Where Can you Learn more about International Friendship Day?
What is World Friendship Day, and how did it come about? Well, the day was marked by the UN in 2011 when the General Assembly decided to pass a resolution declaring July 30th as International Friendship Day. This day was celebrated not only for promoting the bond of friendship between individuals but also for promoting diversity and cultural awareness among people from different faiths and countries.
UNESCO then introduced a proposal titled ‘Culture of Peace’ that strived to decrease conflicts among countries by addressing their root cause and promoting understanding.
An interesting bit of history is that the card company Hallmark in the 1930s first initiated Friendship Day when they encouraged individuals to buy cards and gift them to their friends on this special day. Subsequently, the day was marked by the UN and is now celebrated worldwide on July 30th.
The Importance of Friendship – 5 Things You Might Not Know
We all have friends we talk to daily and share our most important details with. But do we know how important they are in our life? And why you should make sure you cherish these bonds and take the time to nurture them.
Sometimes we need to be reminded why these lifelong bonds are essential to us. This helps us realize why we should cherish them and not take them for granted.
Here are five reasons why friendships are meaningful in your life:
1. They are Good for Your Health
Friendships are essential for your health. Studies have shown that those who maintain and nurture friendships will not only emotionally be more stable but physically fare better than those who are isolated and do not interact with others. Individuals with healthy companies have a lower risk of blood pressure, stroke and heart disease.
2. Will Stand by Your Side
Friendships are essential when you need encouragement or sound advice. A true friend will always offer advice that is in your best interest. Most importantly, your true friends will tell you the truth even when you do not want to hear it and when no one else will. Your friends offer a reality check that sometimes our family cannot give us.
3. Can Build Your Confidence
Friendships can build your confidence and offer you an opportunity to be your best self. Often time we may feel down or inadequate about certain things. Our closest friends will always support us and help us build ourselves professionally and in social settings.
4. Decrease Your Stress
A great way to reduce stress in your life is to share your problems; your friends are usually the first ones you turn to. Imagine now having anyone to share your concerns with. Science shows that just talking about your problems can help you decrease stress and anxiety.
5. Brings Humour to Our Life
Friends can bring humour to your life when you need it. When you are grieving over the loss of a loved one at a time in your life when you need emotional support, your friends can always lend a shoulder and share some laughter that can help to decrease your stress. We laugh with our friends more than with anyone else because we do not have any inhibitions.
