Six Invaluable Facebook Tips for Authors

It is likely that you are already among the 1.35 billion monthly active users on Facebook. If Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest by population, trailing only China and India.

Given these staggering statistics, using Facebook is now an essential component of the book marketing process.

 

Here are our six top tips for authors:

1) Facebook is a low-volume, high-value social network. This means you shouldn’t post too frequently, as your fans will become frustrated. Make every post count, and aim for quality versus quantity. Posts should be valuable to your audience and include content that will interest them. As a general rule, you should post a minimum of three times, and a maximum of ten times, per week. 

2) Facebook users like photos, uploading at least 350 million every day. Photo posts get 35% more interaction than any other type. Take advantage of their affinity, and share photos to drive engagement. 

3) Be concise – posts below 250 characters receive up to 60% more engagement than their more convoluted counterparts. Learn to edit your posts so that they make sense in fewer words. 

4) Time it right. Friday is Facebook’s best day for engagement, and the best time to post across the board is between the hours of 2 pm – 5 pm. 

5) Follow the 80/20 rule – 80% of your posts should be social (whilst still remaining relevant to your book) with only 20% of your posts pertaining directly to selling your book. Entertain your audience first, and sell to them second!  

6) End your posts with a question. Question posts have 92% higher comment rates than non-question posts. Ask for feedback, opinions, advice – anything to get your audience interacting with both you and each other.
