START YOUR WRITING JOURNEY: FIVE WAYS TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR DREAM OF BEING A WRITER

How many times have you thought about starting to write your book, and how many times have you felt less encouraged? How often the idea surfaced in your mind that writing is a talent some people are born with? How many times have you told yourself that you, probably, are not one of them? We are here to bust some myths for you, and to bless you with the motivation you need to get your book finished!

First things first, tell your mind that writing is an acquired skill. You can learn to write just as you can learn to drive. Being a young writer, you can practice every day and reach that perfection you so adore in your most loved writers. Book writing takes time. But the overpowering will and overflowing desire to tell your story to the world will take you a long way in your journey to become an author. We know you have a lot of questions in mind right now; pertaining how to become a good writer, how to improve your writing skills, how to start writing a novel and much more.

In this blog, Austin Macauley Publishers bring you five ways to accomplish your dream of being a writer. Once you go through all the tips, you can share your story with the world by reaching out to us through our online submission form

Observe, listen and reflect

Know that writing, itself, comes at a later stage. Initially, you need to prepare yourself and train your mind into the writing process. It will not be wrong to say that you will have to assume a writer’s identity and open up an eye for detail. Make sure to dedicate more time to observing and listening. Having some time by yourself is essential to practice this. This will allow you to reflect on the many different things you have observed the entire day.

Read and research

You will be needing a reservoir of words. When you sit down to write, you will find yourself looking for a wider vocabulary to use. There are two effective ways to enhance your vocabulary. First, read as much as you can. Reading comes with huge benefits (for more on this, read our blog here!) and will cover your craving for new words. Second, keep doing your research. Even if it’s a small sound that you cannot quite describe, look for it! Find words and phrases that perfectly describe that particular sound. Your random searches will help you out when you sit down to write. In your head, practice describing what is right before your eyes at any given moment. Likewise, describe the personalities of people around you in your head. These exercises will prepare you for the writing part.

Find or create a comfortable setting

You need to be at peace and in alignment with yourself and the environment. This applies to both thinking and writing stages. You do not have to be in a fancy setting; you just need to be in a comfortable corner in your room. Find that right spot where thoughts and ideas come to you all naturally. Make sure when you sit down to write, there is little to no disturbance. Let silence prevail; so that you can hear the sounds coming from within.

Organize less, go with the flow

Don’t try to organize your writing too much. Just let it flow! You can arrange and organize at a later point. Synopsis and outlines work for some people, not all. Being a young writer, you cannot pre-plan the whole thing, so be patient and start where you feel is best. If a rough sketch works better for you, do that. Sometimes, you would want to craft, recraft, and rephrase a sentence multiple-times. Try to resist that urge, don’t try to make it too perfect, because it isn’t about perfection, rather it is more about bringing out your very own style of writing. Our author Laura Buckingham gives similar advice to all those who are aspiring to write:

“Just get started!....... Don’t hold back and don’t filter it.”

Engage in related activity

Connect yourself with writing-related events, happenings, magazines, online content, pages, blogs and the like, so much so that it becomes your reality. This will keep you motivated and you will feel motivated in your journey. If you are struggling to develop a habit of writing every day, try to engage in online writing challenges. This will build your stamina gradually and enable you to immerse in your writing. Having people to discuss your plot with is an added advantage.
