…to follow his dreams.
Moving into cartoons, imagery, and design, his passion for drawing began to take shape. He had been drawing since he was a baby in a cot. He crayoned on the walls through the bars to conjure those ideas that floated in every part of his being.
Sketching, drawing and creative ideas were a major part of his life as he grew up. He recalls that he always had a pencil and paper in his hand. To his amazement, when he was five years old his mother said,

Miriam grew up in the bracing seaside town of Skegness. She inherited her love of story from her grandad, whose Christmas tradition was a glorious giant sack full of books to dive into. Storytime evolved into a career as an actor; touring theatre, a tight-knit, fast-paced industry in which she was given the opportunity to write, direct, and examine stories from every angle. After an exhilarating decade, she left performance work to pursue her growing passion for creative writing, driving her adventure onwards to a Master's in Writing at Birmingham City University. Margaret Morris

If ever there was a marriage centred on socialist conviction and campaigning, it was that of Max and Margaret Morris. Max as President of the National Union of Teachers fought for the right of all children to a full education. Margaret focussed on housing and widening access to universities. She was an early member of CND. Later, they both opposed ‘Blair’s Wars’. Their stories illuminate nearly 100 years of—yet to be won—class struggle.

https://www.austinmacauley.com/author/anna-sutton
Anna Sutton was born in Snowdonia in 1963 during a freezing winter of deep snow and unforgiving ice. After a family move, Anna grew up in an Oxfordshire town on the winding river Thames. The starkly contrasting locations have been the inspiration for her writing and illustrations, combining the magic of the Celtic past with the modern environmental reality of today. Traditional elements of children’s stories, mythology, and fairy tales, combined with meteorological and environmental themes are central to Anna’s books.

Kevin Crump
https://www.austinmacauley.com/author/crumpkevin
After years of working as a professional nerd in IT project management, Kevin Crump decided to give his more creative side a whirl. So, he then spent six months doing nothing but writing The Quay, living on dust and enthusiasm, and rarely showering. This was well-received (the book, that is, not the questionable personal hygiene). Then sometime after that, he added The Storm to the series and now works with lifeboats – these two things are purely coincidental.
Farnaz Calafi
https://www.austinmacauley.com/author/calafifarnaz
Some of Farnaz Calafi’s most vivid childhood memories involve reading and listening to stories. Princesses with long hair, kings in despair, and fairies so frisky, they danced in the air. While in high school and college, Farnaz worked at her mother’s childcare where she noticed that the chaos of school life subsided only during story time. She hopes Hazel and Her Sun is the kind of story that invites kids to pause and be all ears and starry-eyed.
