Ta once said it would be easier for her to walk on the moon than become an artist. She left school at 12 to work in the rice fields. At 13, she worked in a sweat factory in Bangkok making shirts. At 14, she was driving a pick-up truck seven days a week, 14 hours a day, selling vegetables. At 20, Ta had her own business selling pick-up trucks. It was pure chance that a cheeky little drawing she did later in life changed her life forever and got her into the world of art.
This is a book full of strange characters and strange things but don’t be alarmed it’s normal here like bright orange coconut crabs with cat like habits who like to have their belly scratched and baboons who think they one the place and hold a court of law, fire bugs as big as coconuts who light up the village and dangerous characters in London. Ta wrote this book in Thai I translated it to English Ta is a best selling artist with a number of online galleries and has sent her work to 67 countries. The turning point in her artistic career came about in 2017 when she painted a Lady wearing a scar but with an Egg as a face. When I first saw it the next morning I thought she had gone mad and no one would buy that. I put it on sale later that day it sold within 10 minutes and I could have sold it 10 times more. In 2023 Ta started writing Egg Island she wrote it on her phone which took her about 9 months then we translated it to English with the help of our daughter it was difficult the translation to English wasn’t easy and Ta wanted it word for word how she wrote it that took several weeks going over it again and again until Ta was happy.
