Vicky Taylor was not looking forward to the coming year, and with good reason. No job, no boyfriend, and no prospects. However, a chance meeting with a charismatic young man and the promise of a new job help her start to put the dark days of her past behind her. Her life is looking up, but then Covid hits, and like the rest of the country, her world is turned upside down as the demons from her past return to haunt her.Meanwhile, Justin Kell faces his own problems when Molly’s father becomes the victim of a callous investment fraud. The case puts him on the trail of a ruthless criminal determined to maintain his corrupt empire. With Molly expecting their first baby in the spring, the outbreak of Covid pushes their relationship to the limit, forcing Justin to make some stark choices. When murder happens on his doorstep, the ensuing chain of events leaves Kell wondering if their lives will ever be the same again.

Marvin Dixon’s debut novel Settlement was published in 2019 and was the first book in the Justin Kell series. Inspired by his experiences in financial services the series continued with Payback, Redemption and Brotherly Love. Fool’s Gold is book 5 and continues the story of Kell which is set during the Covid pandemic. Now retired from financial services and focussing on his writing, Marvin Dixon lives in West Yorkshire.

‘For some time, I’d had the idea about writing a story that was set during Covid. In a way, I wanted to reference those dark days whilst I also had a few thoughts on how those times could assist with the plot. Thus, the story begins at the start of 2020. Now before you Covid experts start getting hot under the collar, whilst some of the detail of the Covid restrictions is accurate, some is not. Just like this tale they are fiction. I hope you will forgive me for taking such liberties and it doesn’t spoil your enjoyment of the next step in the chronicle of the lives of Kell and Molly.’
