Pam Cooper was born in West Hartlepool and educated there at the Girls’ High School, then at Girton College, Cambridge. She recalls her Girton days as the best three years of her life. Following this, she taught chemistry and later moved into the NHS to work in health education, specialising in cancer education.
In 1995 she married Geoff Cooper and so began their joint adventures in India, ending in his sudden death in Jaipur in September 2019. Later, Pam continued her travels alone. In retirement she enjoys travel, writing, and voluntary and charity work.
Pam Cooper’s love of India ‘warts and all’ is clear for readers to see. Her extensive travels in the North both to popular tourist spots and lesser known places highlights her appreciation of India’s welcoming, spiritual, historical, cultural and religious aspects. A very good informative account of her personal travel experiences which I enjoyed reading.
I found Pam Cooper’s ‘Garlands of Marigolds’ to be a very informative narrative of her varied experiences (mostly good ) during her extensive travels in North India. The book highlighted the many monuments, marvels and sights of several places in the north that are not usually featured in the run of the mill Travel brochures. A ‘must read’ for any traveller looking to visit India in the near future.
A truly delightful book that combines personal reminiscences with useful hints about travelling in Northern India. Twenty years of visiting India includes experiences that are happy, sad, wonderful and challenging enhanced by some interesting photos. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I am already dipping into it for a second time.
I don’t usually write reviews but after reading this book I just felt I had to write one. I really enjoyed reading about India and looking at the wonderful photos, it has certainly inspired and encouraged me to visit India. It was refreshing that it wasn’t a travel book but a more personal tour of the country. I would encourage everyone to read this book you will not be disappointed.
