Glass and Keys is the first book published by Samuel Rankin. It features the very first poems he ever wrote as well as the latest. To read this book is to travel through the evolution of Sam’s poetic journey from writing behind a till on the back of receipts to his most recent and most developed material. This, above all, is an insight into the mind of a young writer who does not shy away from talking about his miseries, fears and views on the modern world. Whether you like fast-paced rhymes, laid-back first-person commentary or thought-provoking literature… Glass and Keys has it all.

Sam Rankin is 21-year-old poet from Ormskirk in the northern region of England. First starting to write behind a till on the back of receipts at work, he began working on ‘Through the Eyes of Me’ when he was 18 up until the he was 21. The topics Sam explores, are based from real life moments and experiences as well as the opinions he has of the world today. Within this book, Sam manages to capture both the imagination and the emotion of his readers whilst keeping even the most depressing topics entertaining and relatable.

Amazing set of poems with beautiful stories told in such a unique way, I don’t read a lot of poems but the progression of them and how deep they can be is truly something different, glad I got it.

Exceptional poetry. This book managed to capture countless feelings and experiences. The brutal yet beautiful realities of life were captured perfectly through word and illustration. I couldn’t recommend this book more.

This marvellous collection of poems touches on an ample profusion of emotions and themes ranging from the comical, the philosophical, the intimate, and the political. An all-round enthralling read which I cannot recommend enough.
