Wishes and dreams are what a little girl had, but sadly, that’s all she had.

Every child wants their very own pet to cuddle and love, don’t they? But this little girl could only dream of having one.

Her mum’s answer every time she asked was always a disappointing “no, sorry love.”

But things were about to change when a mysterious garden visitor needed help desperately!

Frankie comes from Cardiff, South Wales, but has lived in Derbyshire most of her adult life. Frankie has always had a love of children’s picture books. As a teacher, she told or read hundreds of stories to classes of avid listeners. In retirement, Frankie continues to tell stories to her grandchildren, but she felt that she had a story to write too. This story is inspired by an event that happened in her garden in Derbyshire, many years ago, but had until now remained unwritten.

What a lovely story told through the eyes of a little girl desperate for a pet. Although she doesn’t get a pet in a conventional way, she does help to care for a baby hedgehog who seems to have lost his way. With the help of her mum, she finds out what the hedgehog will need to keep him safe, fed, and warm, this leads to making their garden a safe haven for hedgehogs. Any child would enjoy and learn such a lot from this charming story, maybe even encouraging more ‘Hedgie’ hotels to be made, who knows?
