Book Description

How many times have you heard the words, “It will happen?”

For Laura and her husband, Scoop, the phrase that once brought comfort, hope and reassurance began to lose all positive meaning.

When they first started trying for a baby, they had no idea what they would be in for. After the heartbreak of each loss, when the world around her frustratingly seemed to carry on like normal, Laura struggled to cope with her inability to do something others seemed to find so easy. In this candid memoir, she shares her isolating experiences and talks openly and honestly about how she and her husband navigated the harsh realities of their rollercoaster journey to parenthood.

It Will Happen covers:

- trying to conceive and the strain on relationships

- miscarriage, ectopic and molar pregnancies

- jealousy and resentment

- treatments and testing

- the anxiety of pregnancy and motherhood after loss

- communicating with people in these situations

Written from the heart of someone with first-hand experiences, It Will Happen gives you tools and information to feel empowered and supported through the difficult times when trying to conceive. Who ever really knows what WILL happen? What’s important is that it CAN happen.

Laura Buckingham is a wife, mother, nurse and blogger. She has been on an incredible journey to start her family, dealing with recurrent miscarriage and pregnancy loss.

She started blogging to help process her thoughts and emotions during some of her darkest times but soon found that it was helping others too. Many people reached out to Laura and it was clear that her story could provide some hope for others who were on similar journeys.

She has also joined forces with another miscarriage mumma to create a podcast named ‘The Worst Girl Gang Ever’. It focuses on open and honest conversations surrounding miscarriage and pregnancy loss.

Laura lives in Kent with Scoop, Bertie, Cooper the dog and Ernie the tortoise.

She hopes this book will help you navigate your own journey and that you enjoy reading her memoir.

I have struggled with infertility and recurrent miscarriage for 5 years now. I started out by listening to the authors podcast (TWGGE) and hearing her speak about the 'ugly feelings' and how she handled (or didnt) the grief of pregnancy loss really resonated with me. I couldn't help but support another infertility warrior but as it turns out, she ended up supporting me. She put into words exactly how I have felt and still feel while navigating this journey, but have been afraid to say out loud for fear of how I would be perceived. Her honesty and openness about her struggle is inspirational. She mentions the absolutely amazing infertility community on social media, and everything she says is true. It is a community of the best people you could ever hope to meet. Everyone is so welcoming and caring. You feel safe and heard by all the other women who just 'get it'. The book is a quick read.. mainly because I couldn't put it down. I finished it in two sittings (within 24 hours of it arriving on my doorstep!) I laughed and cried and felt so seen while reading her words. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with the trials of infertility or to someone who wants to support their loved one who is struggling. It really gives you an in-depth view of the heartache and pain a couple experiences (specially a woman since it is written from her point of view) when they lose a baby. She even gives some great advice on things to do or say to those in your life who have suffered a pregnancy loss. I am so glad I decided to buy this book. It will be one I go back to multiple times when I need the validation of my feelings. I already loved her podcast, and will continue to follow her amazing journey as she supports and advocates for all women and couples who have lost a baby. Thank you Laura for being brave and putting your story our there. You have given me a ray of hope and I know you will continue to do the same for others!

Laura lays all her feelings, hopes, grief and 'ugly feelings' out in this book and it is so so brave and honest and helpful. I could not put this book down and identified with so much of it. It made me feel like my own feelings were valid and understandable. I also loved and valued the "activity pages" - I didn't know if I would but I filled them all in! Thank you Laura x

I was hesitant to read this book in case it upset me but even though large parts of the book resonated with my own experiences, it didn’t make me upset in the slightest - it made me feel normal and less alone. I got through the book in a matter of days and actually felt a bit uplifted by it. I also think it would make a good read for people who want to support those going through loss.

As she writes, Laura invites you into a safe place to share the ups and downs of her own experiences, whilst creating a judgement free space to allow you to reflect on your own feelings too. She writes honestly, and helps to banish the taboo around pregnancy loss and anxiety at all stages. She’s hilariously funny and witty, but equally sensitive to the wide spectrum of emotions which people feel, giving dignity to grief not just for mother’s, but family and friends too. A must for anyone whose experienced loss, knows someone who has, or wants to know more so that we can greet this topic with the love and respect it deserves! Xxx

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has experienced recurrent miscarriage or pregnancy loss and also to anyone who is trying to support a loved one through this minefield. I found this book hugely relatable and comforting and in places it was almost like I was reading my own story. Laura tells her story in such an honest and real way while also being incredibly funny. She explains what is like to navigate the ugly feelings and how exhausting and frustrating it can be to try to get the much needed and wanted answers from the professionals. This book along with Bex and Laura's podcast The Worst Girl Gang Ever, have helped me feel more confident to talk about how this experience is affecting me. It can be a very lonely place but it is comforting to know that there is a community of other women who are doing their best to navigate their experience alongside you. Xx

It's hard to describe how this book was to read...It's very well written but to say I enjoyed it seems insensitive, but I did. It also brought back so many of my own struggles and anxieties in making my baby as well as my recent miscarriage. It made me cry, made me laugh and and made me feel so much gratitude. Laura is an inspiration and her courage and resilience has inspired me not to give up. There's also loads of helpful information in the book too. Highly recommend everyone read this, not just those facing infertility battles. We need to talk about these issues and support one another. X

This is such a heartbreakingly honest book about pregnancy loss, and all that comes with that! It’s not as simple as being sad because you’ve lost your baby, it’s the feeling’s towards pregnant women, it’s trying to get answers for why this is happening and it’s the way your relationship changes, and Laura just hits the nail on the head! I found Laura after listening to the worst girl gang ever podcast, so I knew this book would be amazing, but it was even better than I thought! If you’re reading this review feeling utterly lost, I’m so sorry you’re here, but I urge you to buy this book, to help you feel validated and understood! If you’re reading this review because someone close to you has lost a baby, thank you for being proactive in your quest to support your loved one. This is the worst girl gang ever, but this book will give you and your partner some support, nothing anyone will say will take away your pain but it can help you feel supported and less alone. Thank you Laura!
