Basabi developed an interest in writing children’s books during her stints as a teacher of English. Her first three illustrated books were about the life and times of an adorable Maltese called Poochie who spent thirteen eventful years with her family. The character of Lottie is based on her pet Labrador Libby, who has a wide range of interests: chasing wild roosters, playing with squirrels and a neighbourhood cat, listening intently to family conversations and devising ingenious ways to wrangle tidbits during family mealtimes!
Lottie at the Gallery is a great book for primary school students. I loved how the Magic Palm Tree spoke in rhymes, and the illustrations really brought the book to life. The book is filled with excellent vocabulary and catchy phrases, making it ideal for students looking to improve their writing skills. It teaches art gallery etiquette by bringing the paintings Lottie sees at the gallery to life. Overall, it’s a fantastic book for students wanting to enhance their English or follow Lottie on her fun adventure. Highly recommended!

I absolutely enjoyed reading the book. The stories and illustrations transported me on a joyous journey through art history and Singapore’s historic sites.
Though meant for children, I read the beautifully illustrated book 'Lottie at the Gallery' in one breadth. The gentle character of the Magic Palm introducing Lottie (in her dream) to the vast National Gallery of Singapore and the adventure therein added spice to the story. The vocabulary is rich. The kids may need help but that is the reward they get at the end. Use of rhymes made the description interesting for kids and grownups alike. Highly recommended.
