Mama Hen’s stories about Papa Rooster often end with the phrase, “He made his mark on the world.” Little Chick interprets his mother's expression literally and tries to scratch out his own little marks. Although he is doggedly determined, all his attempts at making marks fail. Dejected, he seeks consolation from his mother who realizes it’s time to teach the eager learner about the most powerful marks of all.

A lover of words and a well-turned phrase, Peg Marrin pursued undergraduate work in English and graduate work in Comparative Literature. Make Your Mark is Peg’s first book for children. This mother of six, former teacher, and curriculum writer has spent her career advancing the cause of literacy, particularly for those who struggle to learn to read. Now retired, she writes in the woods of Northern Minnesota in the summer.
