Shows kids are an integral part of their community health. The author’s approach is both empowering and fun, wonderful book to share
Love love this book! My 9-year-old has been thinking about what he wants to be when he grows up and this book is perfect for him. Its story is engaging and has bright, fun illustrations that will keep any child reading over and over again. A great addition to our family library at home for many generations to come!
Mr. Figueroa's book addresses a growing disparity in this country, the underrepresentation of certain ethnic minority groups in medicine. Exposing these youth to the various healthcare professions and the idea that these professions are within their reach will hopefully begin to reverse this trend. Bravo!
Marcus Learns About the Different Types of Doctors is a wonderfully delightful read for school-aged children. As a physician that knew at a young age that she wanted to become a doctor, I can say that this book would have been a great resource for me while growing up. What makes this book so inspiring is that it is set in an inner-city neighborhood where many children have dreams of becoming doctors, but often have no guidance on how to reach that goal. Marcus and his grandmother recognize that the information that is needed is right in their own backyard at the local health center. What a wonderful blueprint for children and their families! I have no doubt that after reading this, many children like Marcus will find themselves using their own neighborhoods as a learning tool! I highly recommend Marcus Learns About the Different Types of Doctors and my sons love it, too!

Applause for a book I read with my niece that inspired her to look around her for role models in the everyday helpers around her.
