At the latter end of 2006, a well-respected, married, church Deacon discovers the possible hiding place of a huge ruby named ‘The Fire of Mars'. He becomes obsessed by it and it drives his every thought, but when he meets and falls under the spell of the beautiful and bi-sexual Julie, his life begins to spiral to depths he never thought possible.
In November of the same year, historic researcher Naomi Wilkes and her husband Carlton, arrive in Charleston, South Carolina,
in pursuit of the same stone.

The author was born in Stockport in 1947 and after leaving school was employed in widely differing capacities including being a police constable and sailing around the world in the Merchant Navy.In the 1980s he started his own businesses, and in 2001 he became a volunteer, then professional yachtmaster, taking disabled people on sailing trips until 2008.Since then he has been able to pursue his love of writing, living at home in Bournemouth with his wife.
