This story is based on a real story in the Bible. You can read it in:

Luke 14: 15-24 and Matthew 22: 2-14.

It means that God does not need you to be special, talented, beautiful, rich, healthy, successful or have tons of friends who adore you.

God likes you for who you are.
He would very much like to spend time with you. He is inviting you to pray, but the choice is yours.

“Diana has an amazing talent in combining stories with her paintings.”

“This book is so wonderful!  Each picture made me say ‘wow’ and I love the story rhymes.”

“I want a copy! It’s such a wonderful message and interpretation of that scripture.”

The Invitation by Diana Gordon is a beautiful tale for the under fives based on Luke 14: 15-24 and Matthew 22: 2-14.
The original Bible story can be read alongside the children’s book so that the children realise that the invitation is issued to them whoever they are – Jesus asks them to come as they are, and where they are. Jesus has prepared a feast for each and everyone of us. Jesus is calling you – will you accept His invitation?
The Invitation does not preach to our children. It talks to us through love, showing that our Father has prepared a party for us with love and care.
We see that when our friends do not come, we are to go outside and invite those we meet. They are an eclectic mix but all are welcome. It reminds me of Jesus’ command to go into all the world and make disciples (Matthew 28: 19).
The Invitation is beautifully illustrated. There are beautiful animals on every page, brought to life under the masterful drawings of Diana Gordon. Her pictures give personalities to the animals and invite us to look deeper into the illustrations.
Each picture is accompanied by two verses in rhyme. This gives a rhythm to the book, enabling children to easily join in when they have heard the book a few times.
The pictures and words are starting points for discussions with our children about diversity and the gifts each one of us brings to life.
The Invitation is a simply beautiful book to be kept and savored. Every child should have access to a copy either through the home, school or church.
I received a free copy from the publishers. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
