Daniel and the demure, and slightly shy Gabby are due to go on holiday to Kefalonia. Gabby, having received a bonus from work, treats herself to some clothes. Realizing she hadn’t bought much for Daniel, she sees an e-book in the window of a second-hand shop. With only one story loaded, she reads the synopsis and sees that it is a rom-com, knowing it's not Daniel’s style but still buys it for him. When he reads the synopsis, he finds the story to be a violent action thriller. He decides to save the book until they are on holiday, and in the run-up, the weather in Britain turns unseasonably cold. As he starts to read the story, he discovers it is a spy thriller but begins to notice strange similarities between the characters in the story and their own experiences. The more he reads, the more uncomfortable he becomes. He speaks to Gabby about it, but she dismisses it as a coincidence. He notices words changing as he reads them, and the e-book seems to be communicating with him. Gradually, the story starts to predict their future, a future full of danger. He feels compelled to continue reading and ignores Gabby, driving her into the arms of another man to fulfil her desires that Daniel wasn’t giving her. Too late, he finds out that he must never stop reading.

T.G. Trouper's "The Story – Be Careful What You Read" is a gripping psychological thriller that blurs the line between fiction and reality. Daniel and Gabby, a seemingly ordinary couple, embark on a holiday to Kefalonia, but their trip takes a dark turn when Daniel begins reading an eerie e-book. What starts as an innocent gift from Gabby quickly spirals into a chilling experience as Daniel finds unsettling parallels between the book’s plot and their real lives. As the story he reads becomes more intense, the tension builds, drawing readers deep into the mystery. The book masterfully plays with the concept of fate and choice, using the e-book as a vehicle to question how much control we have over our own lives. Daniel’s growing obsession with the book distances him from Gabby, and soon, the couple's relationship begins to crumble. Gabby, feeling neglected, finds comfort in someone else, leaving Daniel trapped in the twisted plotline of the e-book. This emotional detachment between the two characters brings a real sense of dread as Daniel realizes the full extent of the danger. The story cleverly portrays how something as innocent as a book can become a catalyst for unraveling both relationships and realities. What stands out in Trouper’s writing is the suspenseful atmosphere he creates, which keeps readers on edge as Daniel tries to make sense of his disturbing discovery. The words of the e-book seem to change, communicating with him in ways that no ordinary book should. Every page Daniel turns draws him closer to an ominous fate, and the eerie progression of events makes you wonder—what if the book you're reading starts dictating your life? This psychological twist makes the story highly engaging and suspenseful, as Daniel is torn between stopping and continuing his reading, ultimately leading to consequences he couldn't foresee. "The Story – Be Careful What You Read" is a must-read for fans of thrillers with supernatural elements. It’s a reminder that sometimes, curiosity can lead us down dangerous paths. Trouper leaves readers questioning the power of fiction and the strange ways it can mirror reality. It's a dark, captivating tale that will linger long after you finish the last page.

Daniel, the main character, becomes hugely curious about the story he is reading as it begins to echo his life and relationship. When Daniel tries to warn his partner what the book predicts for them, she won't listen. Somehow it has possessed her resulting in horrific events. The author has gone to very dark places with this story which thriller and horror readers will love. Aspects of TV show 'Tales of The Unexpected' are clear, which will appeal to mystery readers. There are explicit sex scenes too, but these are brief and in-keeping with the unpredictability of the demon book. An interesting idea on which to base a plot. If you like blood and gore, then this is definitely the book for you.

Very good book for a creeping horror. Not to spoil to much but I throughly enjoyed this book.

I started to read this on the train to London. Before I knew it I was in Kings Cross. I was completely lost in the book. I couldn't wait for the return journey to finish this great read. A piece of advice though. Be careful what you read!!!
