This collection of short stories is highly entertaining and impressive due to the variety it contains. Most of the stories have an element of humour unique to Scotland. The variety of stories ranges from teenage tearaways reforming their lives to success coming from poverty, to the effects of a family member being murdered, and to rekindled romances. Also included are stories about dates going wrong, triumph over adversity, holidays, human kindness, party banter, gullible people being exploited, family stories and even a heart-warming granny tale. The key element is positivity and how people emerge from difficult circumstances to improve their lives.
The author is a late starter who only began to write short stories five years ago. He began his writing career by writing tribute poems for family and friends to celebrate birthdays, weddings and special occasions. He then decided to try his hand at writing short stories by attending creative writing classes and joining a U3A writing group. He has built a portfolio of a range of stories that covers many genres, including humour, and human and social attitude tales inspired in Glasgow.

Brown's book is an anthology of stories that play with the realms of riotous laughter and sonority. There is a short story that every Glasgow person can relate to. Brown recreates Glasgow settings in a way that transcends time. His narratives are genuinely unpredictable, with his prose exceptionally eloquent. His tonal shifts are expertly maneuvered and his poetic speech shines. The book is an emblem of the humor and spirit of Glasgow and the nature of its people.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Stories possibly portraying local people though their names have been changed, obviously. Local people's lives explored through the eyes of a local man, Willie Brown has excelled in his first book. Great read. Thank you.

I love this book, you can always picture someone you know as one of his characters. An easy, funny, heartwarming read. I will read it over and over.

The writer has conveyed his fun, Glaswegian sense of humor through witty, lighthearted plots and perfectly contrasted this to a deeper, reflective perspective of local life and people in emotive storylines. Would highly recommend this book and look forward to seeing what Willie Brown writes next!

I like the short stories each one stands alone and is compelling to read. Feeling sorry Happy and cheering the Characters some of whom like them met in my life. It's stories of real people you come to care about.

William captures some classic Glaswegian behaviors in his stories, I love it! A great read and had me laughing throughout, most likely pick it up again.
