The setting is wartime Yorkshire, England 1944. It is an engaging story of innocent young love, as Jack Potter, a 17-year-old career-driven young man falls fast and hard for Maggie Swinton, a caring and beautiful 16-year-old young woman who comes to work at his place of employment. An immediate and profound attraction is forged between Maggie and Jack and, as they explore their emerging strong feelings and love blossoms, the story sensitively reveals that age is no barrier to great love.

As the story unfolds, Jack and Maggie’s love deepens, but they must deal with the struggles and heartache of wartime separation as Jack leaves his Maggie to serve his country. Will absence ‘make the heart grow fonder’ or will it be a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’? After all, they are so very young. Surprise events take the reader on a journey of discovery with these two endearing characters and their families. A heart-warming tale of first love and its immense potential to overcome all odds.

Kathy Abbey lives with her family in Brisbane, Australia. Having been born in York, England, she travelled with her family in 1953, to Australia at the age of five. Kathy loves reading and writing romantic fiction and believes that unconditional love can conquer all.

Kathy Abby is an amazing author. She has such high attention to detail, it’s like watching a movie.
Such a beautiful story that pulls at the heartstrings.

A heartwarming tale of a young couple, Jack and Maggie, who falls madly in love. It reminded me of my Mum and Dad who fell in love before Dad went to war.
