Euan McCall, a former journalist who once wrestled with shorthand, has recently released his debut book two, decades after leaving the newsroom. In a recent feature by HoldtheFrontPage, he reflected on his time at The Guardian, attributing his success in uncovering compelling stories to his journalism background. McCall also revealed that his book is set in a town similar to Banbury and features the fictional 'Grandbury Guardian,' along with other elements tied to the local area. Bottom of Form

The Swan Island Boy is a “page-turning” adventure that tells the story of Raymond who witnesses a devastating environmental catastrophe that scars his town. Fleeing from powerful adversaries, seeking to conceal the truth, he seeks sanctuary on a secluded island in his town's lake, enduring five years of isolation and fear. Encouraged by a newfound ally and a determined journalist, Raymond resolves to confront the truth, rescue his abducted parents, and seek justice against those accountable. This story is about bravery, fortitude, and the triumph of truth over formidable challenges.

Euan McCall, trained in his early 20s as a local news reporter, covering everything from crime to village fetes. Despite being pretty average at his job he had stories published locally, regionally, and nationally. After failing one of his key journalistic exams 17 times (Shorthand – basically speed writing!), he decided to change direction and has since very happily worked as a career adviser in schools, colleges, and universities. The Swan Island Boy is Euan’s first novel.
