Norman J. Penny’s illuminating book covered in a feature article
‘Pictish-Mithraism: The Religious Purpose of the Pictish Symbol Stones’, written by Norman J. Penny, was the subject of a feature article on the Evening Express. The book sheds light on the mysterious Pictish Stones of Scotland.
The region is home to these amazing pieces of history that have intrigued historians for a long time. Their purpose and meaning is still shrouded in mystery.
They are mainly concentrated in the north east part of Scotland. The symbols carved on each stone are different and carry unknown messages. In an attempt to cast light on them, the author has connected these stones with the Mithraic statuary. The connection has gone unrecognized so far, until author realized it and put into writing.
Norman, is an independent researcher who‘s interest in history led him to explore the Pictish Stones. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology. His field of study gave him the skills to examine and analyze the stones in a unique way.
His fascination with the stones carried over from his primary school days. The interest turned into research and after spending 10 years on his analysis, he published all of his work in the form of the book.
