Author of the book ‘The Broadsword and the Englishman’, Mr. R.G.Harwood was at the Trentham Neighbourhood Centre, Trentham Victoria. The author discussed his book at the event and gained a lot of appreciation from the audience.

This is a book about a lad ‘Bill” who grew up in a devout, middle-class English family in China and it was the time of Sino-Japanese war where a series of events take place that leads him to join the war. This boy goes down to the coal mines of Wales and eventually goes to Australia to start a fresh life.

Haunted by the memories from the past, he traverses adulthood as a flawed man. Now with the support from his loving wife and the influence of his Chinese friends, he is now all set to go back to face the fears from his past. He revisits his childhood places and fights his demons there. He farewells a good friend who leaves him a symbol of peace and strength, his Chinese broadsword.

Rod.G. Harmon was born in Geelong, Australia in 1958. He is the youngest among his siblings. After serving for seven years in the Australian Army and two years with Commandos, he entered the private enterprise.

He now lives in Victoria with his wife and writing has been his lifelong dream which he is finally shaping it to come true.
