Dive into the spellbinding realm of FlatWorld, where Edinburgh’s own adventurous couple, Mac’ and Mari MacKenzie, find themselves ensnared by an ancient and mystical chessboard, gateway to the sprawling Multiverse of endless worlds.

In FlatWorld, which intriguingly mirrors a vast chessboard landscape, the couple is thrust into a race against time. They grapple with deciphering ancient scripts, separating myth from reality, all the while being ensnared in a looming conflict between the luminous White Tower, the stronghold of the Light’s King and Queen, and the enigmatic Grey Court. To their astonishment, Mac’ and Mari discover they’ve assumed the roles of the Dark King and his Grey Queen.

Amidst the backdrop of fierce Goblorcs, valiant Knight Riders, stern men of steel, and Church-Cross Bishop armies gearing for war, Mac’ and Mari’s quest becomes twofold: find a way back to their beloved Edinburgh before FlatWorld claims them eternally and thwart an impending war that threatens to plunge both kingdoms into an abyss of endless darkness and turmoil.

John Girdwood was born in 1964 and has resided in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh his entire life. A father of two, a son and a daughter, and also a grandfather for the last eighteen months.

Due to ill health, John had to retire from a successful career in the hospitality industry and to pick up writing in his spare time, purely as a hobby. After positive feedback from friends, John submitted his first manuscript to Austin Macauley, in the fantasy genre, and is proud to present his finished work in this book.

Hey Readers and Story-lovers! I was given a copy of FlatWorld2^ by a friend, to read on a flight, and all i can say is that i owe him a huge thank you!! ~ the Tale is very good, with a fast and relentless pace. What a read! I was initially concerned I’d have difficulty ‘getting into’ this book as I have never read anything like it before, but it was brilliant!! I was quickly lost deep within the tale, and immersed in the FlatWorld to a degree which felt like I was there if I simply closed my eyes. This would make a fantastic film, the incredible imagination of the Author ensures that it is the easiest of tasks to feel yourself as being part of a wonderful adventure. All in all, I would be delighted to recommend FlatWorld2 as a must-read.
