Alan is trying hard to make sense of his world since his wife left him for Chuck in Morewilling and the local Co-op closed down.

21st century technology is eating into his wallet and his soul, and the price of a night out doesn’t leave change from a tenner anymore. But he is sure about three things:

No one in Lesswilling needs a bidet or a hot tub.

There’s no place for preserved lemons on British supermarket shelves.

His mother was right about hindsight – it is a “wonderful thing to meet your own arse coming back.”

Jan Sargeant lives in a conservation village in West Yorkshire. Having retired in 2016, she is a successful artist as well as writer, seeing both as helping her live with the progressive disability caused by Parkinson’s Disease. In her spare time, she runs a support group for 2000+ others living with Parkinson’s and makes banana cake.

A ‘coming of age’ journey for the not-so-young. Alan follows a difficult path to enlightenment as he begins to embrace the 21st century and the huge challenges to his views on life and his long-held convictions.
A story told with gentle, often rib-tickling humour, that details the battles many of us have faced in accepting new ideas, technologies, bidets and the demise of the twin tub washing machine. Alan heroically survives many ordeals learning along the way, not least understanding the focaccia isn’t a swear word.
I thoroughly enjoyed every word. Highly recommended. Hope there will be another series very soon.
