This book struck a chord. The author manages to articulate both the internal world of a victim and the mindset of an abuser, it can cut through layers of denial, shame, and confusion in a way that few resources do. That kind of clarity is powerful — not because it tells people what to think, but because it helps them recognise their own experiences without judgment. The embarrassment, the minimising, the “it wasn’t that bad” — is incredibly common among people who’ve lived through domestic abuse. A book that validates those feelings while also unpacking the historical and societal attitudes that enable abuse can be a lifeline. It gives people language for things they’ve never been able to name. It is a psychological insight, the social commentary, and something more personal in the way the book is written.
