‘Then I heard them. At first, there had been no sound. Then, faintly, there it was, the near silent echo of footsteps.’Barcelona 1937, the city is embroiled in a Civil War. The struggle for survival amid a climate of political mistrust, uncertainty and the pervasive fear of death, is softened only by the strength afforded by family and friends.A young British man, George Olivella, arrives in the city looking for his family and anything that will help him make sense of his life. Seventy years later, Barcelona is a vibrant and successful city. The time is right for George Olivella to tell his tale, yet he knows his story will expose deep-rooted passions that will threaten his life. Into this scenario he entices his young protége, a young Spanish man looking to find meaning to his own life.

Steve has worked for many years as a senior leader in education. He has spent many happy times in Barcelona, owning an apartment there, in the edgy Born district, for many years. This experience inspired his novels, drawing from the rich history of the city as well as from the many good friends that he met in the great city.

Steve is married with two grown-up children and lives in Guildford. He now spends any spare time travelling to Houston, where his son lives with his family.
