Can you imagine coming downstairs one morning and discovering that your pet hamster has escaped?

What is more, you cannot find the hamster anywhere and your mum is already late for work and is NOT happy!

That is exactly what happened to Dani one morning before school.

This story and other exciting adventures of Dani’s pets are revealed in the true-life account of No More Pets!

Veronica Colley was brought up in North London. As a child, she always wanted to be a teacher or a writer. She was married and had three daughters before she was able to realise her ambition to go to university and train to be a teacher. This coincided with her youngest daughter’s obsession with rescuing ‘abandoned’ animals.

Veronica started regaling her class with the tales of her daughter’s pets. It began as just anecdotes to tell at story-time but she soon realised they were hanging on her every word and clamouring for the next instalment. She has only just left the school where she taught for twenty-one years, having delighted and engaged many classes with this ‘true-life’ story.

No More Pets , a wonderful book written by my good friend Veronica Colley is full of funny stories about her daughter’s pets. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anyone.

The adventures of Dani and her pets might well be a familiar tale in other households, but this is what makes it special. Being able to relate to a story can bring it to life and it is easy, in this book, to immerse oneself in the life of the Colley family, particularly when getting ready for the school run. The book is great fun and can be brought alive when reading to a younger audience or be read by children for them to bring it to life.

This is a great book for children of all ages! The story is funny and relatable. And the illustrations really bring the story to life. The perfect book for reluctant readers.

Dani's love for animals and her mum's continuous moans of 'no more pets' is no doubt a common family saga in many homes and will appeal to young readers who are also animal lovers. I'm sure the children in Veronica Colley's classroom loved these tales and now so many more children can benefit by reading and enjoying the book. The story is written to capture the attention and imagination of young children and animal lovers alike.

This is a smashing little book with a good, funny narrative which made me chuckle! It’s a true story, well-told, with quirky little anecdotes added in about family life which keep the readers (children & grown ups) interested right to the end. Can’t wait for the follow up! Beautifully illustrated too.
