Book Description

I hear you mumble under your breath, “Oh no, not another book about the menopause, same old, same old...boring! Yawn, yawn, blah, blah.” I can assure you that this is not the case!

Riddled with raunchy, racy rhymes. Strictly adult content throughout. Jokes, anecdotes, quotes and one-liners, keeping it fresh and original. Dropping in a word search here and ‘tongue-in-cheek’ comment there.

Enough to make a gynaecologist blush!

Oozing with sarcasm and colourful language. (Ok, swear words!) Dripping throughout with blood, sweat, and tears! (All from first-hand experience – you’re welcome!)

NOT for the faint-hearted!

A bonus edition, ‘Off the Shelf’, is included, offering an extra saucy sprinkle of ‘spice’, but contains slightly harrowing tones. The aim is not to ‘scare’ but to ‘share’ the depths of emotions readers can relate to in complex relationships and the effect menopause can have long after the HRT patches have fallen off!

Kerry Willis has three grown-up children and lives with her son in a modest terraced house in Northamptonshire, along with their two tuxedo cats, Patsy and Swayze. Having worked in a secondary school setting, she has fallen in love with William Shakespeare and history, particularly a certain male English Monarch!

This passion inspired her to write about The Macbeths and Henry VIII’s six unfortunate wives—all with a modern twist! Kerry has written a book about poems and short stories that rhyme around the sensitive topic of menopause: a poignant, assured debut collection that resonates deeply and transfixes the reader while remaining balanced with an innate, evocative humour.

The Menopause Shelf is a thought-provoking collection that explores the menopause with refreshing honesty, humour and a willingness to tackle subjects that are too often left unspoken. Kerry Willis moves between playful, irreverent poems and more poignant reflections on the emotional impact of this stage of life, touching on relationships, identity and the challenges of finding your way through change. The bright, fun cover has an uplifting feel that complements the spirit of the collection, and I particularly enjoyed the word searches at the end – a lovely, interactive addition that gives readers another way to engage with the book.

Wow! What a read this was! You can really tell the author has poured her heart and soul into every page of this book. Refreshing to read about her journey in a way that I can totally relate to. Completely describing the ‘good, the bad and the ugly’ in such a way, it made me smile, nod my head, laugh and cry! The author really has an incredible talent of putting her emotions into words that make you sit up and listen, agree with, have empathy for and feel empowered by too! A roller coaster to read with the humour, the story telling inuendo’s, the colourful language, the poems; all leaving you feeling both heard and understood. Thank you for sharing your journey with us Kerry, and for understanding mine! A real acknowledgement to ‘Sisterhood!’
